I am not a great fan of Darcy Ward or Poole; however I am not sure that all the criticism of his turning down a wild card place for 2012 is necessarily accurate. It may be true that money came into his decision: However Darcy said before the last season finished that he did not intend to accept a wild card place as he did not feel he was ready to race in the GP Series full-time in 2012.
I did say three months ago that he would not accept a wild card place if it was offered and I would have felt a bit like he was being hypocritical if he had accepted the place.
I am not surprised Pepe turned down a wild card either having been there and shown that he really is not competative enough to make an impact on the world individual championship circuit.
Hans is not a great surprise for the FIM/IMG to turn to as he is if nothing else good box office, especially with his good friend NP likely to be seen in close or too close action between them in the coming season. Nobody can honestly doubt that a fit and at his best Hans can and probably will beat any of the other riders in the GP Series in 2012; the only question is whether he can be consistant enough to make the top three, which must be every riders aim at the start of the campaign or there is little point in entering.
